I read a lot of reviews for entry level 4K HDR TVs and I was torn between the Samsung HDR 55″ Tizen and the TCL Roku 55″ HDR and decided to go with the latter. I am not qualified to give a complete review since I am coming from a 8 year old LG HD (not smart) LCD TV. What I can say though, setting up the Roku, adding channels (apps) and integrating my Amazon Fire TV was a breeze. The picture is so much better with both 1080p and the new 2160p – there was lots of 4K content I could watch to get an idea of the experience.PROS:- Setup was super easy- Picture quality is rich, vivid and bright enough for a small room with a large window- 3 x HDMI + 1 Ethernet port + 1 TOSLINK audio + RCA audio- Both 2.4G and 5G WiFiCONS:- Buttons on remote are not programmable- Sound quality not great with TV speakers (ARC or TOSLINK to Dolby compatible receiver instead)NOTE TO AMAZON: you sent me the same TV twice and I sent one back – the first order that was supposed to arrive last week got lost so Amazon sent me another at no additional cost.

Quick delivery thru Purolator. 2 day Prime is a bonus. Tv is well packaged and box was well padded. Setup was fairly easy. I was initially a bit skeptical about this 4K Tv at this price point. This tv is replacing our old 42” Panasonic Plasma that died. The screws for the foot of the tv is packaged with the manual and remote. It was easy to install and just needing a Philips screw driver. It’s a two person assembly but I managed to do it myself utilizing our couch to and a fleece blanket to lay the tv down flat to assemble the legs. The TCL55S425 is slim on the body with a wider base. The black color and light under the TCL logo adds a touch flash on this stylish tv. I registered ahead of time on the Roku website. It’s free and a must if you would like to utilize this TCL tv to it’s full potential. Most of the apps are free (Roku TV Channel) and some that are subscription based (Amazon Prime, Netflix, DAZN, TFC etc). It has three HDMI ports, USB, Cable/Antenna Port, Toslink, Ethernet Port, head phones and analog input (RCA). Once I turned it on I was immediately blown away with the bright crisp picture quality. I connected to our home wifi but you can use the wired Ethernet Port as well. Sign in using your Roku account and start downloading apps that you want. Netflix and Roku Tv Channel are available by default. I added YouTube, TFC, DAZN and Amazon Prime. I calibrated the settings to the CNET Best Picture Settings that I found in the AVS Forum. Just go to the display settings by pressing the *-asterisk button and adjust display settings as follows:TV Brightness: BrighterPicture Mode: NormalDynamic Contrast: OffBacklight: 100Brightness: 42Contrast: 100Sharpness: 66Color: 55Tint: 0Color Temperature: For daytime or bright room use: Normal or Cool. The colours really pop and the whites are shimmering. For night-time or dark room: Warm, if watching in a dark room, or say the late shows, the cool or normal settings make the tv almost blinding to watch. Warm tamed them a bit. More plasma like whites.Once I finished setting up the display properties. I connected my devices to the HDMI ports. The TCL was able to detect our Amazon Fire Stick 4K, Blu-ray player, Apple TV and Denon AV Receiver. The Roku interface is very user friendly and intuitive. If you have a PS4 or Xbox One you can connect it to HDMI 3 (Circle Arc) and set the input to HDMI 2.0. And don’t forget to change the Game Mode to “on” when playing games. This tv shines with gaming and watching 4K movies. It has low latency and lag with first person shooter games or graphics intensive 3D environments. Netflix movies/shows in 4K looks amazing as well as Amazon Prime. The 4K Blu-Ray movies are also a joy to watch especially the nature videos (Planet Earth II and Blue Planet). The built in 10W speakers are adequate for regular tv/cable viewing but lacks the deep bass but nothing that a sound bar or a couple of sourround sound speakers could not fix. I hooked up my Denon AV to our 5.1 Bose speakers. The Dolby Atmos pass-thru support and HDR10 display are great features that are usually available to higher end tv’s eg. Sony 900F or LG C8. Which I was both eyeing for Boxing Day before I decided to give the TCL 55S425 a try. And I’m quite happy with what this 4K tv has to offer. It might not have all the bells and whistles of the more popular brands but it has all the high premium functions and performance that you are looking for in a smart 4K TV without the premium price. You can also use your IOS or Android phone to control your tv by installing the Roku app. It’s convenient as you can use the headphones of ypur phone for quiet listening when watching tv at night. Though it’s limited to cable/antenna input. Any devices you connect thru the 3 HDMI ports have this feature disabled due to DRM copy protection. The workaround that I found was to use a Bluetooth transmitter plugged in to the head phone jack and pair a wireless Bluetooth Headphone speakers for easy listening. A wired head phone will work as well but be sure to have a long cord. The TFC app in the Roku interface seems more responsive and 4K playback is better than it’s Android version. My wife likes the easy navigation buttons of the Roku remote. As well as the ergonomic volume controls on the side of the remote. My only gripe is the 4 lower buttons are not programmable. I only use the Netflix button but the CBS All-Access, TuneIn and Deezer buttons are not utilized as I don’t subscribe to them and most of them are not yet available here in Canada. (US only). But overall this tv is a solid choice if you’re looking for a feature rich 4K Smart tv that’s reasonably priced. Great deal if you get it on sale during Black Friday or Boxing Day.

I’ve had the TCL 55″ tv for two weeks now, and I’ve had THE best movie nights experience since! Those who criticize picture quality mustn’t have used the Advanced Picture Settings’ options. I’m using a cheap HDTV antenna ( I’ve cut the cable bills a long time ago), and the picture quality is stupendous! Watching Amazon Prime TV series in HDR made me appreciate the TCL even more. The sound is “ok” for now, but I’m considering the purchase of a soundbar/sub woofer combo in a few weeks. At night, I use wired headphones hooked on the tv as the Roku app seams to have a volume flaw under the “private listening” option. I had been saving money for over a year for the purchase of a flat screen tv, and I don’t regret my decision in choosing TCL.

Without a doubt one of the wisest purchases I’ve made. Quality is high. Set up and user streaming could not be more smooth or enjoyable. Overall value is out of this world!!My only issue was that it took Amazon almost a month to get this TV to me after purchase. The company they use for delivering, although large, was not able to deliver for 2-3 weeks and when the expected delivery date came and went the TV still “shipped”. It took an additional week before a delivery appointment was set. A 4 hour window was provided today ( someone has to be home for delivery) and they were still late….All in all. I am very happy with this purchase. I wouldn’t do it different. I just hope Amazon can improve the delivery process for larger items….

If you’re looking for a great quality 4k TV on a budget, then this is the right TV for you! I watched many youtube reviews about this brand and I’ve heard nothing but great things, and upon unboxing this unit over the weekend I haven’t been disappointed. Crystal clear 4k image, with HDR gives quite an immersive experience. I got the 43 inch version for the master bedroom and it’s not too big and not too small. The ROKU operating system provides a simple and easy to use interface. I’m a Prime Video and Netflix member and there’s plenty of 4k content that suits my needs. I highly recommend tv’s by TCL.

For the price I paid, I am very happy with the t.v. It communicates with my home computers perfectly and even though my technical skills suck, I had zero trouble hooking everything up. Love the big screen, can’t wait for the next Nhl. or Nfl. game. I had a problem with the delivery of my first order, but after waiting a couple of days past my delivery due date, I contacted Amazon and they got right on it and my new t.v. was here two days later. Love this company, the are so not petty.

This is my first smart TV, so maybe this is par for the course, but the setup for this unit was so slick, and so easy – I was very impressed. Everything worked great out of the box, it recognized all of my devices (including my sound bar, which was finicky on my last TV), and the selection of apps is almost ridiculous. I haven’t used a Roku before (though I’m used to the Chromecast), but so far, so good.Oh, plus it’s a nice size, the picture is great, and it wasn’t too expensive. I’ve only had it set up for a day, but thus far I am so very, very pleased.

So I was skeptical about ordering online. I ordered it on a saturday and due date was in 4 days. I got it in 2 which was awesome. When I got it, there was a huge cut on the box ( phone got stolen = no picture ☹) but the tv is well protected so its intact.Installation was great. You gotta screw the legs which there is not instuctions though. Setting up the this is easy as pie. Connect to wifi, wait for updates, choose the channels/program you want and finally make an account. The image, for me, didnt need setup. I play Zelda on the Nintendo Switch and the image is impecable.
